Asana is a steady, comfortable posture

Patanjali’s Yoga Sutra 2.46

Sthira sukhamasanam

Sthira – steady, stable

sukham – comfortable

asanam – posture/presence/sitting without interruption

Asana is a steady, comfortable posture

To me, this sutra reflects life in general. Some things come easy; other things take time and practice. The same is true of my yoga practice. Some poses feel great (sukham), others are a definite struggle, and  some seem near impossible. The goal is to find some comfort in each asana you move through. Some days this may not happen, at least not physically, but we can find the comfort in our minds, and accept where we are without judgement. Some days even that is hard depending on the events of the day, or even the weather, or other life incidences.

I'm a lab rat turned yogi. My interests lie in how yoga and meditation can help healthcare workers (and other frontline workers) relieve both physical and mental stress. Other interests include green living, clean eating, minimizing chemical exposure in our homes, and finally finding inner peace while minimizing anxiety.
